Executive Bios

Truman Child — President

Since launching American Liberty in 2004, Mr. Child has developed the business from a unique vision to a vibrant, growing workers' compensation insurance company serving Utah businesses.

Before starting American Liberty, Mr. Child was an Area Vice President for NovaCare Employee Services, a large national PEO. From 1998 to 2000, he oversaw all aspects of business, sales, customer service, risk management, human resources, and payroll, as well as benefits and workers compensation in NovaCare's Western Region. Prior to working with NovaCare, Truman was the founder and President of Pay America, Inc., a regional PEO. Pay America was acquired by NovaCare in 1997.

Mr. Child was also the cofounder and President of United Staffing of Utah. While with United from 1994 to 1995, he introduced the first master policy retrospective program to the Utah market with American International Group - AIG and later Fireman's Fund.

Mr. Child holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University and is fluent in Japanese.

Steven Schroeder — Director of Underwriting

Mr. Schroeder joins the company management team bringing with him over forty years of working experience in the insurance industry. Starting his career as an underwriter in 1968, he has a diverse background involved in underwriting, product line development, reinsurance, operations, and administration skills.

Mr. Schroeder has a broad range of experience with a variety of commercial casualty product lines, having worked previously with other insurance companies, managing general agencies, program managers, and insurance brokerage firms. In just the past twenty-five years, he had held both regional and home office corporate executive management positions with American International Group/Chartis Insurance, Reliance National Insurance Companies, and the PRS Group. Before joining American Liberty, Mr. Schroeder was an independent insurance consultant involved with doing special projects retained by state regulatory authorities, insurance carriers, private risk clients, and wholesale program agents.

As Director of Underwriting, Mr. Schroeder is a driven contributor dedicated to the growth of American Liberty Insurance Company and its commitment to its products and services for all policyholders, producers, and payroll service companies.

Cynthia Hatting — Senior Underwriter

Ms. Hatting brings nearly two decades of workers' compensation risk assessment and underwriting experience to our management team. She was Senior Underwriter for Sierra Insurance Group/California Indemnity from 1995 to 1999, responsible for underwriting the Colorado, New Mexico, and Kansas territories. Prior to that, Ms. Hatting worked as a senior underwriter/supervisor for Great States Insurance Company-FHP and as a workers' compensation specialist for Great American Insurance Co. in California. Throughout her career, Ms. Hatting has shouldered significant responsibility for workers' compensation underwriting as a specialist in the field and a senior-level manager of other professional underwriters.
